Sample Degree Program, Double Physics/Marine Science Major
The requirements for the physics major are 31 credits at or above the 200 level, including four credits of laboratory and the courses 205, 206, 207 (or 205, 210); 360, 340, 321; 350, 351; and 560.The following typical program includes courses that could be used to satisfy the distribution requirements for the College of Arts and Sciences. (Credits in paranthesis)
| Semester 1 ENG 105(3) (composition). MTH 110(5) or 131(4) (calculus). CHM 111(3) & 113(1) (chemistry & lab) HIS 221(3) (history) |
Semester 2 ENG 107(3) or 106(3) (composition) MTH 112(4) or 132(4) (calculus) CHM 112(3) & 114(1) (chemistry & lab) PHY 205(3) (mechanics) |

Semester 8 |
Other science courses required for the double major are GSC110 (4); BIL 150 (4) or 160(4) (and lab(1)). There are 20 credits of Marine Science courses needed for the major: MSC111 (3), 215 (3), 216(1), 230 (3), 232(1), 301 (3), plus 6 more credits.
Recommended math courses: MTH 512, 513, 514, 515, 520 (applied)
230, 533, 534, 561, 562 (theoretical)
Recommended programming course: CSC 120 or EEN 118
There are physics courses suitable for electives. For example, 315(math methods), 520(solid state), 552(optics)
The two-semester alternative to the three semester 200-level sequence is 205-210, where admission to the latter course depends on superior performance in 205 and in calculus. The courses Phy 205, 206, 207, 210 are offered every semester, so there is some flexibility in taking those. The other courses, such as 315, 321, 340, 350 are offered in the indicated semesters only.
The humanities, history and social science courses listed are typical ones; you may replace them by others from the group allowed for distribution requirements.
